International prisoners and the pandemic – seeking release, improved conditions and family contact before international criminal courts

International prisoners are persons who have been accused or convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes by international criminal courts. These courts are directly responsible for the conditions of detention of accused or convicted persons housed in their international detention facilities. The sentences of imprisonment of the majority of convicted persons, however, are enforced in the national prison systems of cooperating states.
