ABSTRACT

Stephen and Erjia write about same-sex couples and LGBTQ+ individuals raising children. The vignettes present snapshots of their experiences as parents and STEM educators trying to navigate both parenting and STEM academic spaces. They describe how policies based on heterocentric and gender norms can inadvertently have a negative impact on queer parents in academia. They also discuss ways in which their parenting experiences positively inform their STEM pedagogy and their understanding of their roles as educators.
