ABSTRACT

Guest accommodation give hotels their very purpose. Yet, developments in the field have undergone a considerable mind shift in the past decade. In fact, respective design endeavours have concentrated more and more on providing comprehensive guest experiences rather than traditional amenities, often framed by hotel classification systems. Social media and ‘influencers’ have instead become more powerful showcase and vouching instruments for hotels than their once supreme number of stars. In that sense, the traditional rating system as foremost choice criteria for the client has practically been superseded by the ubiquitous ‘vying for instagramability’ that characterizes travel in our time.
