ABSTRACT

The market for branded hotels is strong in picturesque historic cities in England, but often there are difficult constraints to new builds. These include restrictions on planning, tight sites, flooding and brownfield contamination. This case study shows how Avantis constructed a new 143-bedroom and 8-apartments Hampton by Hilton hotel to brand standards in York city centre despite such limitations. Innovative construction techniques were used, such as limiting floor heights and self-contained ventilation using heat exchangers.
