ABSTRACT

Drug policy reform, and working towards a post-prohibitionist society, is fundamental to achieving societal change. But how that is done matters. Though reform of the drug control framework may go some way to relieving the risks and harms created by the criminal justice system, it will not necessarily address economic, social or racial injustices for the most marginalised and vulnerable. In order to work towards transformative change, we must ally ourselves with movements working in those arenas and ensure that the reforms we are demanding bring about greater possibility for a just and fair society, and do not replicate or further exacerbate the harms of prohibition.
