ABSTRACT

Many schools are now placing even greater emphasis on the role of EHC Plans in shaping the curriculum for their pupils. EHC Plans, as legal documents, must be followed, and the information within must reflect an individual’s unique development and learning needs. EHC Plans are governed by the guidance given in the SEND Code of Practice. It is possible to include Intensive Interaction in all the areas of need referenced within the EHC Plan as the FoCs underpin all areas of learning. There is an important distinction to make between outcomes and provision. Outcomes are defined by the SEND Code of Practice as ‘the benefit or difference made to an individual as a result of an intervention’. It is essential to ensure that other professionals, including all teachers within the setting, are aware of the importance of Intensive Interaction, and therefore the need to reference it within EHC Plans.
