ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how a small group of school leaders set out to create certainty in otherwise chaotic times. The authors argue that during the COVID‑19 crisis, successful leaders recognised the importance of building confidence and leadership capacity in others. The schools sector was hit particularly hard during the pandemic, with the entire educational status quo upended. This has ignited a debate about many aspects of education, including its organisation and delivery, assessment and purpose. The debate about the future of education is still ongoing and is of vital importance, as the future prospects of millions of children depend on what happens next.
