ABSTRACT

Tribal ART in the form of crafts, paintings, music, dance, and songs express the uniqueness, individuality, and heritage of each tribal community. Successive attempts and strategies have been initiated by the government and non-government organisations towards rejuvenation and development of the tribal arts. The Study recognises the need for greater voice and autonomy of the tribal communities over development and governance-related schemes of their arts. It advocates the significance of engaging reflexively with the understanding of traditional handicrafts and presents the powerful potential of the arts of the tribal communities to nurture sustainable linkages, ethically, with market economies.
