ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that there is a significant gap between the knowledge about Adivasis as it exists in academic disciplines and the knowledge that Adivasis have about themselves. On the one hand, the caste-bound society has an epistemological difficulty in knowing Adivasis, on the other hand, the divergent expressions of Adivasis are often seen as resistance. It argues that to reduce the gap, it would be desirable to look at the current state of Adivasi languages and the literary creativity that has started blossoming in their languages. Following the statement of the position, the chapter has two long sections devoted to discussion, respectively, of language and literature.
