ABSTRACT

A significant and growing number of employers use Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) to support their workplace mental health and wellbeing agendas, but how much do we actually know about its use and effectiveness in this context? This chapter explores the growth of MHFA globally as a workplace mental health intervention. The research into MHFA generally, and in the workplace, is reviewed in relation to those who receive and deliver support, to outline the current evidence base. The potential opportunities, limitations and emerging issues related to MHFA in the workplace are discussed with reference to academic literature and practical examples. The chapter provides a balanced overview of the current landscape for employers and practitioners who are engaged with, or interested in, MHFA in the workplace.
