ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes a study on the formation mechanisms of the middle class in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The study of the middle class is an important and complex subject, and the team anticipated the enormity and complexity of such a research task when selecting this topic. Although there is a wealth of research on the middle class in China, there are few studies on the middle class that are based on data from unified, large scale (household) surveys. Considering this situation, the research group, after much in-depth discussion, decided to conduct a special survey in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, where China’s middle class is relatively concentrated, in order to obtain high-quality, specialized data to support research.
