ABSTRACT

School journey widens the child’s horizon academically but, in another way, the social value is far-reaching. Group behaviour improves rapidly as the children learn to live together and give and take for the happiness of the group. Mutual help is the keynote rather than jealousy and quarrelling. There are children who have never before been away from home without the protection of their parents. Many of our children live very restricted lives. They have very little opportunity to move in new environments and to mix with others in circumstances which can teach them correct behaviour, good table manners, etc. One of the values of school journey is the contact with parents. In many families, both parents go out to work and have no time for school functions, but when school journey time comes round, they will even get time off from work to come and see the children off and meet them on their return.
