ABSTRACT

Access to safe, sufficient, and nutritious food has become a universally recognised human right. This chapter reviews the development of the right to food regime through a series of international conferences, declarations, resolutions, and agreements over the course of the past half century. Focus is placed on the work of the United Nations and its affiliated agencies who have led international efforts to establish the right to food regime. This chapter then offers recommendations for improving and strengthening both food aid and food assistance as well as achieving food sovereignty in the Global South.
