ABSTRACT

In this interview with Tammy Rae Matthews, Aashish Kumar (he/him) discusses his interests in how one’s process of capturing, representing, and distributing stories can become integral to the overall intention of the storyteller, through the i-doc project Body, Home, World: South Asian American LGBTQ+ Journey. To Kumar, co-creation methodologies, community- or public-funding, and democratized, open-access distribution channels are the most effective ways of countering careerist, commodified, and profit-centered narrativizing that dominates our storytelling culture.
