ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the adequately with change are those of the highest priority and that it is beyond our ingenuity to design school environments which can help young people to master concepts necessary to survival in a rapidly changing world. The very essence of this collection lies in promoting legal education as an educational endeavour which embeds lifelong learning for its participants and as a pathway with transformative capabilities that is able even to generate and foster world-changing thinking. The presentation of legal education as a pathway which is capable of creating meaning in the lives of those who engage with it belies a strong aspirational import and thus harbours perceptions that legal education currently fails to achieve these goals. In reflecting on the Australian experience since the 1980s, in 2013, Raewyn Connell argued that education had been ‘powerfully affected by the rise of a neoliberal political, economic, and cultural agenda’.
