ABSTRACT

This chapter will define and use Critical Media Literacy (CML) as a lens to explore the Social Impact Entertainment (SIE) movement as reported in a research study report history issued by the Skoll Center for Social Impact Entertainment at UCLA. This chapter defines what SIE is and how and why it matters, why it works, as well as its focus on authentic and engaging stories, human rights and social justice and responds to how SIE and CML call for the other at the nexus of art, critical media education, social justice, and the entertainment industry.
