ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book demonstrates how collaboration with peers and colleagues from diverse disciplinary backgrounds adds great value to vocation programs. It also offers insights into the ways vocation programs can be enhanced through community engagement and purpose-based learning. The book focuses on a life design course at the university's Institute for Applied Creativity for Transformation. It highlights the importance of being responsive to student demographics, institutional mission, and particular needs of an academic unit or area when integrating vocation into the curriculum. It develops vocational awareness through a community-engaged history project. The chapter informs course and assignment design, residential living programs, career development, and faith formation.
