ABSTRACT

Through this chapter, we explore various ways peer leaders within a residence life-setting can support undergraduate students on their journey to discern their vocation. While a vast array of engagement opportunities within our residential curriculum exist, we focus on Community-Building Meetings (CBMs) and Intentional Conversations (ICs). These engagement opportunities allow students to participate in guided learning both in small group and one-on-one settings to examine their decisions, involvement, passions, challenges, and campus resources related to vocation. Following the CBMs and ICs, students completed a comprehensive survey. The assessment data revealed that following participation in these engagement opportunities, students demonstrated the ability to articulate a comprehensive understanding of vocation and vocational discernment, reflect on their sense of vocation, and identify practices of self-care and resiliency. Finally, we provide strategies and insight for faculty and staff to use in applying peer-to-peer facilitation techniques to best support students’ vocational discernment process.
