ABSTRACT

Technology has accompanied human beings throughout history ever since their origins as a species. However, in recent decades, technology has intensified its presence in everyday life. The field of health is no exception, and in recent epidemics, technology has played a special role. Whilst it is true that technology is of great interest in containing pandemics, sometimes states use these health technologies to limit the rights of their citizens. The COVID-19 global pandemic is challenging the world, but this should not be used to turn democratic states into authoritarian states. This chapter analyses the use of technologies during the pandemic in five states: China, Taiwan, South Korea, Iceland, and Israel.
