ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the theoretical and practical concept of shared reality as a result of war and terror. Based on a systematic literature review, it describes the development of the shared reality concept, in this specific context, and the terminology used to refer to it. It discusses relevant theoretical constructs and applications as well as innovative practice approaches employed in shared reality situations that result from war or terror, as illustrated by a case study and therapist reflections. Finally, the discussion section sheds light on what remains to be explored, and is followed by several recommendations for educators, trauma workers, supervisors and managers when working in these shared reality situations.
