ABSTRACT

For a very long time, China has been comprehensively and profoundly influenced by Russia while China's research on Russia and the Soviet Union is lagging behind. At a time when the world is experiencing unprecedented changes in a century, it is of great value to clarify the significance of Russia to China and to improve and enhance the research methods on the Russia–Soviet issue in China for the sake of academic progress, knowledge accumulation, and the better protection of China's national interests in diplomatic practice. Starting from the analysis of the influence and significance of Russia on China over the past 400 years, this chapter reviews the history, achievements, and shortcomings of the study of Russia and the Soviet Union in China, and offers methodological options for deepening the study of Russia and the Soviet Union in China in multi-directions.
