ABSTRACT

This chapter explores English majors’ perceptions of a content course in terms of their perceptions of the course, classroom anxiety and motivation intensity in relation to the course, as well as approaches to writing up course papers, the most challenging task of the course. Foreign language classroom anxiety is “a response to a condition in which the external element is or is perceived as presenting a demand that threatens to exceed the student’s capabilities and resources for meeting it”. Results of statistical analyses of the Classroom Anxiety Scale (CAS), the Motivation Intensity Scale (MIS) and the Attitudes towards the Course Scale (ACS) were reported. To examine the correlations between the measured scales and the participants’ performance in the course, correlation analyses were conducted between course grades and perceptions of the course, the CAS, the MIS and the ACS.
