ABSTRACT

The city is a living entity that renews itself as time goes on, through actions and decisions that transform the territory. The aim of the study is to present the policies deriving from the New Urban Agenda (NUA) and its application in Mexico; to explain the history of urban planning in Guadalajara and the current problems of the city; and finally to describe how the project of updating the planning instruments of the city was implemented, bringing them in line with international policies and national legislation. The case of elaborating the 2018 planning instruments for Guadalajara sets a precedent locally for consolidating university-city partnerships, as the project was designed by academics and graduates from the University of Guadalajara. This type of partnership can be repeated in other mutually beneficial projects, where academics, students and graduates relate their acquired knowledge and skills to professional practice.
