ABSTRACT

Aware that so much of the practice literature in social work has been written by older white men, we have sought to include a chapter that explores the significance of the contribution of African ideas to practice. The chosen extract introduces a journal special issue, and readers are encouraged to follow up the other articles in the special issue. We have also, however, opted to include much of the lengthy reference list, as a way of documenting the sheer scale and range of writing on this hugely important, and yet often neglected subject. Finally, our further reading documents some of the most cited literature that has emanated from Black voices in the UK.
