ABSTRACT
This chapter, along with the previous two, sets the context for this Reader. Iain Ferguson is a Scottish social work academic and activist who has written widely on critical and radical social work. In this chapter, he reviews the history and politics of social work and makes a compelling case for social workers to acknowledge the political nature of their profession and to grapple with its consequences and potential.
