ABSTRACT

The OECD was founded in 1961, replacing the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation which had been established in 1948 in connection with the Marshall Plan. OECD special bodies and entities include: the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation; Development Centre; Financial Action Task Force; International Energy Agency; International Transport Forum; Multilateral Organization Performance Assessment Network; Nuclear Energy Agency; Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century; and Sahel and West Africa Club. The 30-member Development Assistance Committee (DAC) is the principal body through which the OECD deals with issues relating to co-operation with developing countries and is one of the key forums in which the major bilateral donors work together to increase their effectiveness in support of sustainable development. The DAC is supported by the Development Co-operation Directorate, which monitors aid programs and resource flows, compiles statistics and seeks to establish codes of practice in aid.
