ABSTRACT

In 2018 OAPEC member states contributed some 28.2% of total world petroleum production and 15.5% of total global marketed natural gas. In that year OAPEC member states accounted for 57.1% of total global crude oil reserves and 27.1% of total global reserves of natural gas. The Bureau assists the Council to direct the management of OAPEC, approves staff regulations, reviews the budget, considers matters relating to the organization's agreements and activities and draws up the agenda for the Council. It co-operates with the League of Arab States and other organizations, and attempts to link petroleum research institutes in the Arab states. In August 2020 OAPEC issued a report on the use of Liquefied Natural Gas as an environmentally preferable marine fuel substitute. OAPEC, with other Arab organizations, participates in the Higher Co-ordination Committee for Higher Arab Action. OAPEC was a founding member (in 1982) of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, affiliated with the University of Oxford.
