ABSTRACT

Affiliated or associated national federations in 133 countries representing 105m. The secretariat consists of the General Secretary, and four Deputy General Secretaries, appointed by the General Council. There are special committees within the secretariat concerned with finance control; legal advice; migrants and refugees; women; and youth. WFTU maintains a permanent mission at the headquarters of the International Labour Organization, in Geneva, Switzerland. In October 2016 the World Trade Union Congress adopted a new platform of action, with the aim of reforming organizational processes to achieve greater focus on specific issues and to improve efficiency. Addressing the Congress, the WFTU General Secretary noted that the Federation would intensify its efforts to achieve its objective of emancipating-through internationalism, class unity and militancy-the international working class from capitalist exploitation and recreating it as the vanguard class. Income is derived from affiliation dues, which are based on the number of members in each trade union federation.
