ABSTRACT
There are Committees on Disaster Risk Reduction; Energy; Environment and Development; Information and Communications Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation; Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development; Social Development; Statistics; Trade and Investment; and Transport. In May 2015 the Commission initiated an internet-based Asia Pacific Energy Portal, and agreed to establish an ESCAP Committee on Energy. In September 2017 ESCAP and UNEP jointly organized, in Bangkok, the inaugural Asia-Pacific Ministerial Summit on the Environment, which considered means of promoting a resource-efficient and pollution-free regional environment. In June 2019 ESCAP helped to organize the inaugural Asia-Pacific Innovation Forum, in Tehran, Iran. ESCAP’s Social Development Division covers the following areas: ageing, disability, gender equality, HIV/AIDS, inequality and social protection; international migration; population dynamics; and youth.
