ABSTRACT

ECLAC was established in 1948 to coordinate policies for the promotion of economic development in the Latin American region. ECLAC's work programme is carried out by the following divisions: Economic Development; Social Development; Women and Development; Natural Resources and Infrastructure; Population; Production, Productivity and Management; Programme Planning and Operations; Statistics and Economic Projections; Sustainable Development and Human Settlements; and International Trade and Integration. In August 2013 ECLAC, with support from the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), hosted the inaugural gathering of the Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean. ECLAC acts as the secretariat for the Observatory on Gender Equality for Latin America and the Caribbean, which was established in 2008 and is supported by partners including UN Women and UNFPA.
