ABSTRACT

Specialized intergovernmental committees-on Statistics, Social Development, Energy, Water Resources, Transport and Logistics, Liberalization of Foreign Trade, Women, Trade Policies, Financing for Development, and Technology for Development-assist the Commission to formulate medium-term work programmes. The Advisory Committee, which comprises heads of member states' diplomatic missions in country hosting each quarterly meeting, and a senior representative from the host country, fulfils a consultative role, while providing a means of communication between member governments and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia secretariat. The secretariat comprises an Executive Secretary, two Deputy Executive Secretaries, and the following administrative and programme divisions: Administrative Services; Economic Development and Integration; Emerging and Conflict-related Issues; Social Development; Statistics; Sustainable Development Policies; and Technology for Development. The Economic Development and Integration Division supports member countries in areas of financing for development; promoting domestic, intraregional and foreign investment; facilitating transboundary flows of goods, services, people and capital, by integrating regional markets; and through the provision of debt management assistance.
