ABSTRACT

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) provides technical leadership to the UN system’s COVID-19 crisis recovery efforts. In March 2020 the administrator stated that UNDP’s immediate response to the COVID-19 pandemic was focused on three priorities: supporting the world health organization-led health response, including procurement and supply of essential health products; strengthening crisis management and response; and addressing critical social and economic impacts. UNDP also supports programme countries in attracting aid and utilizing it efficiently. UNDP’s development activities place particular emphasis on people living in poverty; and groups experiencing greatest social inequalities and exclusion, especially women, female-headed households and youth. UNDP is committed to ensuring that process of economic and financial globalization, including national and global trade, debt and capital flow policies, incorporates human development concerns. UNDP works to strengthen parliaments and other legislative bodies as institutions of democratic participation. The Programme assists with constitutional reviews and reform, training of parliamentary staff, and capacity building of political parties and civil organizations.
