ABSTRACT

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC’s) guiding strategic framework during 2021–25 included the following focus areas: addressing the world drug problem; countering organized crime, including by facilitating the implementation of the UN convention against transnational organized crime. UNODC supports member states in implementing drug use prevention interventions (in particular through the Global Youth Network against Drug Abuse and the Global Initiative on Primary Prevention of Substance Abuse) and in providing drug dependence treatment and care services. UNODC services meetings of the policy-setting Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. UNODC promotes research and undertakes studies of new forms of crime prevention, in collaboration with the UN interregional crime and justice research institute. UNODC has emphasized that wildlife crime is driving certain species close to extinction, as well as disturbing fragile ecosystems and adversely affecting local livelihoods and social and economic development.
