ABSTRACT

Composed of representatives of all member states, the Assembly is International Civil Aviation Organizations (ICAO’s) legislative body and meets at least once every three years. It reviews the work of the organization, sets out the work programme for the next three years, approves the budget and determines members’ contributions. ICAO has developed a series of safety performance indicators and targets. It also supports programmes to assist the victims of aircraft accidents. ICAO’s regional and global performance-based navigation task forces support countries’ implementation of PBN—an air navigation concept setting clear performance targets for specific flight operations, and emphasizing the use of accurate satellite-based navigation aids. ICAO develops standards and recommended practices relating to aircraft emissions and, through the ICAO Secretariat and the committee on aviation and Environmental Protection, it conducts related outreach activities. In March 2017 the ICAO council endorsed a standard governing the certification of reduced emissions of greenhouse gases from aircraft.
