ABSTRACT
The secretariat prepares the meetings of the various bodies of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Unions and oversees the communication and implementation of decisions. In October 2011, in collaboration with the nonprofit organization BIO Ventures for Global Health, the WIPO research initiative was launched, with the aim of advancing the development of treatments for hitherto neglected tropical diseases through the establishment of partnerships between interested parties. The Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights comprises WIPO members, intergovernmental organizations and other signatories to the Berne Union. WIPO's Advisory Committee on Enforcement provides technical assistance and co-ordinates with other organizations and with the private sector to combat counterfeiting and piracy activities; provides public education; supports the implementation of national and regional training programmes; and promotes the exchange of information on enforcement issues.
