ABSTRACT

The World Trade Organization (WTO) facilitates negotiations on global trade agreements, monitors the implementation of trade agreements, undertakes dispute procedures, and works to build the trade capacity of developing states. The General Council, composed of representatives of all WTO members, is required to report to the Ministerial Conference and conducts much of the day-to-day work of the WTO. The Council convenes as the Dispute Settlement Body, to oversee the trade dispute settlement procedures; and as the Trade Policy Review Body, to conduct regular reviews of the trade policies and practices of WTO members. The WTO Institute for Training and Technical Co-operation, based at the secretariat, offers courses on trade policy; introduction to the WTO for LDCs; WTO dispute settlement rules and procedures; trade in services; and other specialized topics.
