ABSTRACT

A Committee on the Implementation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Declaration held its inaugural meeting in September 2008. In September 2017 ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community ministers endorsed an ASEAN Consensus on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers. In September 2016 ASEAN leaders issued the ASEAN Declaration of Commitment on HIV and AIDS: Fast-Tracking and Sustaining HIV and AIDS Responses to End the AIDS Epidemic by 2030. In September 2016 ASEAN leaders issued the ASEAN Declaration on One ASEAN, One Response: ASEAN Responding to Disasters as One in the Region and Outside the Region. ASEAN concluded a formal partnership agreement with the new Japan International Co-operation Agency in July 2008, with the aim of working together to strengthen ASEAN integration and development. In April a meeting of the ASEAN-USA Joint Co-operation Committee discussed means of advancing collaboration on addressing transnational challenges, as well as economic integration, maritime co-operation, fostering emerging leaders, and opportunities for women.
