ABSTRACT

Meetings between intergovernmental authority on development (IGAD) ministers responsible for foreign affairs and the IGAD Partners’ Forum, comprising the grouping’s donors, are convened periodically to discuss issues such as food security and humanitarian affairs. In early 2020 the IGAD Executive Secretary established an IGAD Taskforce on COVID-19, mandated to collect information and best practices, to develop policies, and to formulate emergency response plans to combat the regional spread of COVID-19. IGAD supports the development of the regional infrastructure, particularly in the areas of transport and communications, to promote foreign, cross-border and domestic trade and investment opportunities. In October 2015 the IGAD Center for Pastoral Areas and Livestock Development established a Regional Export Quarantines Network. IGAD has worked to combat the impact on fish stocks of illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing in regional waters. IGAD promotes conflict prevention, management and resolution through dialogue.
