ABSTRACT

For many researchers, collecting data is the most active part of the research process. In this chapter, we discuss some of the major tools or techniques used by researchers to collect and collate research project data. These include literature review data, which are often used to guide and steer the use or deployment of subsequent tools in the research process. We also consider other approaches to collecting and harvesting data, including experiment, survey, interview, and observation. All the techniques and devices contained within these approaches add value to the process and can help to illuminate areas of research interest.
