ABSTRACT

Research impact can be seen as the consequences of the research you have done, and this is becoming more and more relevant. This chapter will demonstrate how research can generate impact that has different outcomes in different sectors, as well as how co-production can lead to a more effective outcome. It provides examples as well as tools to take in mind on how you want to achieve impact, but also on how to measure, assess, and evaluate research and impact in general. Different forms of knowledge dissemination and its purpose, such as the role of social media, are discussed as well as its potential risks and limitations. Finally, a practical example of using Merton’s norms will illustrate how you are able to contextualise research and publications, providing a useful tool to think more widely about other, as well as your own, research.
