ABSTRACT

This chapter first introduces the cultural and theoretical differences between the supervisor and the supervisee. Then it discusses the factors promoting good supervisory relationships despite these divergences, which include the realness of the supervisor, the professional competence of the supervisor, the high sense of self-regard and self-efficacy of the supervisor, the respect of the supervisor for the supervisee, and the strong emotional bond or attachment in the supervisory dyad. Compared with the cultural and theoretical differences, supervisory factors contribute more to creating good supervisory relationships.
