ABSTRACT

The legal service of the Chancellery of the Sejm consists of staff from the Legislative Bureau and the Bureau of Research. The Legislative Bureau plays the leading role in handling work on bills and resolutions. From the early 1990s, the tasks performed by the Chancellery of the Sejm to service plenary sessions were clearly separated from those related to the activities of Sejm's committees, which brought transparency to the service of various spheres of the Sejm's activities. The Rules of Procedure of the Sejm require the Chancellery of the Sejm to ensure the participation of a representative of the legal service in proceedings concerning bills and resolutions. The legal service is constituted by the employees of Legislative Bureau, as well as the Bureau of Research, to the extent of its participation in the legislative process. Under the law, employees of the Chancellery of the Sejm are entitled to special privileges, as compared to the general provisions of the labour law.
