ABSTRACT

In early 2020, the world became gripped by a global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the circulation of a novel coronavirus strain: SARS-CoV-2, significant for its novelty and its virulence, transmission speed, and proportion of people it kills. This chapter reviews information about pandemics, coronaviruses, and SARS-CoV-2 information in particular, comparing media responses, focusing upon how scientific information is presented and analyzed.
