ABSTRACT

Unlike the initiatives that are focused on delivering veteran wellbeing through work at a variety of sites, the excavation at Nokalakevi, Georgia, is a long-running research excavation that has also been delivering training opportunities for Georgian and international students. Since 2017, the Anglo-Georgian Expedition to Nokalakevi has been able to successfully involve military veterans from Georgia, the UK, and Ukraine in the project – delivering improvements in self-reported wellbeing for all those who have participated and enabling them to contribute authentically to the ongoing excavation of an important site of Georgia's national cultural heritage. This chapter describes the background to the project and the involvement of veteran participants and discusses the qualitative data collected from Georgian and Ukrainian veterans in 2019.
