ABSTRACT

Despite its long tradition, research on corporate social responsibility (CSR) appears to be surprisingly modest in regard to social and environmental consequences of such corporate interventions. The purpose of this study is to identify recent studies exploring CSR impacts, to summarise the findings of this literature and to highlight recommendations for further research. Taking stock from a wide range of general management, international business and CSR-related journals revealed that the issue of CSR's contribution to society at large is hardly present. The selected articles do not offer a clear resolution to the question of CSR impacts and their findings need to be treated cautiously due to some methodological and data-related concerns. Moreover, several studies seem to suggest that the actual impacts of corporate voluntary actions might be negative from the perspective of their beneficiary.
