ABSTRACT

The introductory chapter explains the background and scope of the book, providing short summaries of the following chapters which are dedicated to the role of international organizations in providing and protecting passengers’ rights, EU institutions and passenger rights (legislative and judicial development), carriage by sea and inland waterways, carriage by air, carriage by rail, and carriage by road. It is hoped that this book will serve as an analytical and cohesive compound of various modes of transportation with respect to passenger rights regulated by EU and international law, thus being more than a mere mixture or collection of contributions (chapters) written by different authors. At the same time, it is intended that each and every chapter can be read individually which might be useful to those readers, scholars, and practitioners who are interested only in a particular branch of transportation.
