ABSTRACT

The coastal landscape design and planning of Ao Mahachai Mangrove Forest Natural Education Center (AMFC) at Samut Sakhon province in the upper gulf of Thailand highlights how the implementation of hybrid mechanisms to mitigate flooding is not only an effective method to combat sea level rise and coastal erosion at the local level, but could also be a catalyst to promote sustainable livelihoods. Through participatory processes with residents and collaboration with the local authorities in redesigning the AMFC masterplan, local community resilience is gradually built by increasing local adaptive capacity and minimizing socioeconomic vulnerability.
