ABSTRACT

For the purposes of this chapter, the interview is divided into two sections. In the first section, the authors deal with the epistemological difficulty in determining what ‘the economy’ might be, and how its theoretical constitution relates to a gendered discourse. In the second section, Gibson asks the poignant question: ‘Is crisis part of a narrative that continually reconstructs the durability of this notion of a capitalist economic system, and to what extent can it be used to prize open spaces of opportunity and spaces for action?’ As such the latter part of the interview engages with the pragmatic and popular text Take Back the Economy, both in terms of the language used to write the text, and the nature of reclaiming the authority to understand and participate in economic activity. There are many different terms at the moment that appear to be getting at a similar kind of thing. .
