ABSTRACT

This chapter consists of the diverse voices of educators, professionals, and parents at the elementary level who share their stories about the transition to pandemic education. Each story begins with a poem that uses the words and authentic voices of the professional about this transition to online teaching and distance learning. The voices in this chapter consist of a third grade teacher working with her grade-level team to support students, a first-year special education teacher navigating a district ban on using Zoom, a district leader serving struggling low-income families during the pandemic, a college professor juggling teaching and work responsibilities while being faced with taking on her children’s academic and spiritual education, and a TK-6 principal’s letter to parents recognizing the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic. These diverse voices make clear that quality education requires a solid teaching pedagogy and collaboration.
