ABSTRACT

The fourth industrial revolution is rapidly transforming how the world operates. Growing global connectivity, smart tools (AI), new media reshaping how we work, learn and develop skills. The constantly changing environment requires new skills, knowledge and constantly re-educating. This impacts directly on the vision of the future of education. Current and future students look for personalised, flexible, scaffolded and peer-to-peer learning with the use of digital technologies, and lifelong learning. The development within learning technologies offers higher education institutions (HEIs) opportunities to design new learning experiences. To well prepare students for the job market, to meet the needs of industry and to ensure the best possible student experience, HEIs need to embrace opportunity created by advanced technology and embark on a new journey. Current and prospective students expect that course delivery will include some online components.

The main focus of this paper is to investigate how universities are adapting to this new challenge and what tool/solution can be incorporated to meet the needs of current and future students. Various pedagogical approaches would be examined with their pros and cons. Student perception of the new tools will be also investigated.
